Hey Graymist, just so you have an idea. Expenses you may have after a net settlement check could range from $800 to $2500. Things like fuel, truck payment, insurance, taxes, maintenance, and a million other things. Example. If you do a 2500 mile week, you have to make about $3200 to take home about a $1000. That is with about an $800 truck payment. These are estimated, just to give a general idea. This is to show that nobody is getting rich :lol:

 

Gray...for that week, after deductions my Net was $3,838.34. And yes..I pay myself 25% of "My" gross, so I "made" $1,260.40 for that week. My truck payment is $985 a month, my truck insurance is $167.00 per month (comp, fire&theft, collision, gap, and bobtail).

Very informative stuff, Mike !! I'm seriously thinking of creating an Excel spreadsheet based on your data, and tracking your numbers....it's just to give myself an idea of the key metrics : even though I'm a company driver, I've created a spreadsheet for the fuel consumption in my truck, which gives me the mpg and fuel cost per mile ( km for me ) and maintain it assiduously.

Been reading your post with a lot of interest and have begun the process for getting my Hazmat and tank endorsements. I am very interested in your story along with Paul and Orange. I too would like to get a good dialogue going with as many people as possible. I live close to Baltimore and most every tank company has a terminal in the northern VA and Baltimore area. Are there any QC guys here who would care to discuss the hub mile pay with them. Please don't be shy folks let us have all the info so we might make informed decisions.
I have been an Owner operator for a while and have enough driving experience for all the companies. I do not, however have any tank experience I can prove. Which companies are the busiest right now and will train someone with no tank experience?

 

Everything is good I was just waiting for some pay info to come in before I posted.We have a really good terminal in Baltimore,now whether or not they will train you that all depends on the individual terminals,our 2 terminals in Michigan will others will not(?)
