Mike were you on the back row in an idle air spot at the 65 exit TA this weekend in OH? I was pretty sure it was your truck but I didn't want to come knocking on someone's door and wasn't sure it was you.

Can you or anyone else here remember what the brand is of the pumps and compressors that are driven hydraulically. I may have found a truck that already has a wet kit and need to get specs and requirements for the hydraulic stuff to see if the setup already on this truck will work. I figure it will save money and weight if the kit on the truck will work.

I have a few questions for you I will pm you later this week. I need to talk to you about how Suttles does things as I have been approached about coming there when I get my truck.

Yeah that was me,should've knocked only problem was I was as sick as a dog all weekend and never really left the sleeper.

As far as the hydraulic stuff I have no idea,Maniac would probably give you a better idea what you need.

I've run quite a bit of the southeast, and some to Texas, but if you only want to run in the south you would need to work out of a terminal down there, and even then you may wind up in the great white north.A wet kit is not needed,a product pump and compressor is and they can be run off a pto.

Wet kit is useless for tanks, nothing of it can be used, maybe sell it to help defray the cost of the stuff you need. The "hydropack" system is actually heavier than a shaft system and MORE expensive, the wet system ( walking floor or dump) uses different pressures than the hydropack.

Like Mike said you will need 2 PTO's one for the pump one for the compressor.

The pumps are usually made by Roper or Ranger, the compressors are Quincy, the company usually has some laying around used, BUT not always, you would have to check with the individual terminals.

My buddy Bill got his whole set up from the Grafton Mass terminal, they installed it too, and while they were doing it he ran a company truck.

Figure on around $4000.00 for everything, give or take. Hydropack runs around 7 grand

That was my main question. I thought if I could use the installed pto and pump then just get the hydro setup I might come out a little cheaper but I found out the pump on that truck doesn't put out enough pressure. You can still use the used equipment. Blackmer makes hydro drives that hook up to the compressor and pump to convert them to hydrive. Oh well thought I might be saving some money but back to the drawing board.

Mud,

You may be able to retain the PTO to run either the product pump or the compressor. I checked recently on running the Hydra-Pac and it is not cost effective. The Hydra-Pac or similar system (can not remember the name right now) will cost a little more than twice the amount of running dual PTOs. Like Maniac said, you can anticipate about $4000.00 to set the truck up with dual PTOS and all new gear. The cost will vary depending on the truck and the amount of stuff that has to be moved/relocated underneath.

Here is the link to the information I posted on 20 SEP 07 that will give you a basic breakdown on the cost.

I hope this helps.

So I spent some time doing research on this thing with the hy drive set-up.

I talked to a guy at the local hydraulic shop. He says the pto and pump on the truck I found will produce plenty of pressure to run the compressor and product pump. He says he can run hard lines along the frame and soft lines from the pump and to the accessories for around two hundred dollars. This would save the hours of labor required to install the shafts and move air tanks etc to get the regular system in.

The biggest issue is that the hydrive system involves a cooler for the fluid and valving to allow you to switch between accessories. The hydraulics guy says get him a schematic and he can duplicate the set-up. He says we can use the resorvoir already with the truck. Only thing we have to figure out is the cooler.

I will call blackmer on thursday and get prices for the kit they sell to convert the compressor and pump to hydraulic drive. If those drives are less expensive than the two pto's and shafts and labor to make room for them I may be able to have a hydraulic setup for about the same money. Please don't ask me why I am trying so hard to get the hydro system over the other I really don't know the answer to that other than I am really looking for a reason to buy the truck that has the wet kit because it is a steal and has a Cat engine. I am partial to yellow engines.
