Ohio Turnpike Tolls Going Up?
I put this in Anything and Everything Truck Driver Related but then I got to thinking that the toll rate increase is more likely to affect Owner Ops than company drivers... so here's the link to the thread.

These tolls can go as high as they want. I don't take the toll roads. That is the best way to avoid any price increases. The only way I will take a toll road it because that is the only way to get to where I need to go. That rarely happens. The last time they raised tolls they couldn't understand why so many trucks came off the turnpike. I suppose they still didn't get the message. Just don't use the toll road.

In the last three years, I have not run any toll roads. I have no problem making my deliveries on time and don't need all the cash in my pocket. That includes running NO TOLL ROADS from Syracuse, NY to Bangor, ME. I don't run them in OH or IN, and I don't get near them in IL. Pretty obvious, someone in IL wants to line his pockets at our expense. 400% increase? KISS MY GRITS!!!

I avoid them whenever possible and it makes me just sick when I hear about various states considering changing certain freeways to toll roads.

I know one RUSS order for Chicago that didn't get delivered for a year and a half. All the guys seem to have felt the same way about it. It was a "back-up generator" for a hospital, and because it HAD to go by toll road, they finally got it there by paying more than $7/mile for the freight bill. I turned it down once at $2.25/mile and agian at $4.85/mile because the only way for a truck to get to that hospital is by toll road. If we all do that, they will get the message. Indiana has leased theirs out to Spain and Austria for 99 years. They said they needed the money for some projects around the state. Well, government can not survive without the money once they get their hands on it. What will Indiana "sell" when they need money in another 15 years? The toll road is already gone.
