In Texas, at least, apportioned trucks (straight trucks included) are issued one license plate which is to be displayed on the front.

I have a letter in my permit book from the Texas DOT to that effect. One of our Class B drivers got pulled no rear plate recently and used the letter to avoid that ticket (though he did get one for "mud flaps too long" - go figure).

In NY they give you two plates. Solves the problem on where to put it. A lot of states only give one. Ask the Law.

In CA you are issued two plates, if you tow a trailer put the tag up front, straight truck on back
