Owners of tractor & trailer, avg. income?

Was talking to a driver here in Canada.......she has friend who is O/O up here.....he was saying after all was said & done, his take home as O/O is less than when he was company man.
I am not yet OTR, currently studying....but had thought about going O/O eventually, I know this is a huge step. Are there any Cdn, possbily Ontario O/O drivers out there who can advise on best business decisions. I realize it can be a personal decision and when comes down to $$'s is it worth it?

not sure the details allan, as i didnt ask. i understand that this driver is currently o/o.
IMO, anyone wanting to know their true operating costs of any business needs to manage excellent records.

If you live in North Bay and want to be home every weekend you'll likely go broke. Live in the GTA, you'll be better off.

well i have made from 65,000 to 97,000 that is 78 % of the gross pay. some can earn 175,000. but that is usually teams, where the truck hardly ever stops. last year i earned 81,000. that is pulling flatbed. i was always able to make more, but i work when i want to. after all expenses i will bottom line take home approx 60% maybe a lil less. lots of factors determine that outcome. i think most people on this forum are honest & will tell you the truth. not all truck drivers in person do. i had one guy (when i fist got started) tell me he makes 3,000 a week. i was real impressed & thought about leasing to the co he was with. until my friend & trainer pointed out later looking at the man's truck, said if he made 3- grand a week why does he have 16 of his 18 tires slick as a onion? this driver carried a air hose & had to put air in his tires on every load. more to the story, but this guy was not telling the truth as i later verified myself... the way i got into the business ... it worked very well for me.. good luck..
