Most rates I have seen coming out of Baltimore lately have been fairly cheap unless you are doing some LTL's. Rates I have been quoted range from about $1.35-2.00/mile. Most have been on the lower end. Of course, it also depends on where you want to go. If you go to Ohio or Midwest, rates are generally a little higher than running to the Southeast.

Rank- I don't know if I can bring myself to move back to Ohio, I lived in Findlay in the early 70's, but I grew up and spent most of my time in the San Francisco Bay area. With the taxis the rates are $2.60 per mile and the goal was to get 60 per cent paid milage, but some of the drivers want to run all over the place and don't pay much attention to the deadhead miles. their thinking keep moving all the ime. That's hard with the price of gas for the past few years. Bill

Sounds just like trucking!

We did alot of running so far this week for very little. Let's see if I can remember this. 100 dead miles to pickup. 440 miles loaded. 85 miles to reload. 380 miles loaded. 200 mile deadhead home. Two loads paid a total of $2150 on 820 loaded miles but 1205 all miles. We netted only $365. Sux but the driver needed some miles.

I guess it doesn't sound so bad when you put it that way Stan. I was looking at it from the perspective of 3 1/2 days of 4 wheeler roulette for $350.

$2 to $2.25. More if it's machinery or vehicles. But these rates are going to ON. I don't know about rates that aren't going to Canada.
What about coming back from ON? is there any step freight that's paying well? Also, how much of a delay on average do you incur at the border?

Rates out of Toronto are ~1.75 - $2, which ain't no hell but it makes it worse because we nave to deadhead 180 to pickup. Border isn't bad unless it's a vehicle.

I try to follow the posts about how much people are running around with deadhead miles. The one thing that is better is appears nobody gets what we call "no shows" where the cab drives to pick someone up and the passenger is gone. Bill
