His gross is 13600 AFTER expenses, isn't he already applying the expenses to his gross?

There are still expenses that you discover when you do taxes.

Yes - the $13,600 is after all expenses have been paid. ATBS has me setting aside 25% of that for Federal and 4% for State (WV) taxes

That's at the pump. I only use the ECM for an idea of what the mileage is per tank.

I screwed up pretty bad yesterday.

I picked up a load at Nestle Purina in Mechanicsburg, PA. The load was heavy, so I knew I needed to scale it. I was also almost out of hours on my 14 when I picked it up. So, I went to our yard in Carlisle and planned to scale the load at the Flying J across the road from the terminal. That was the plan, anyway. When I left yesterday morning, I completely forgot about scaling the load. In fact, I didn't remember until the weigh station in Winchester, VA started giving me all kinds of red lights.

The trailer was loaded heavy to the rear. I was 7,200lbs over on the trailer (still under gross). They let me try to adjust it, but then I would have been over on the bridge law. The officer said that I definitely didn't want a bridge law fine on me. I'd hate to know how much that is, considering my over-axle fine is $931.

I picked up a load of dog food up at Purina in Davenport Iowa last week. I had sat there for 10hrs waiting to get loaded. Had a 7pm appointment and got loaded at 5:30am. When I was finally called to go hook my trailer back up and drive to the guard shack and get my bill I was PO'd. I looked at the bills and they said 44K product weight and 2200lbs for pallets. When I closed the doors it was loaded clear to the back. I went ahead at took the load to get out of there. It was 222 loaded miles for $1,000. It was heavy but I got it there without getting stopped.

Ouch - glad you didn't get stopped anywhere. I can only haul 45,500.

I doubt it very much you could do it anyway, too much weight. And after they fined you, did they let you go as is?

Ya - they let me roll with the overweight. Once they give you an overweight fine in VA, you can hit every scale in the state and not get fined overweight again.
