Some get it, some don't. Those that don't get it are probably doing themselves a favor because using credit would probably be a disaster. I use credit for everything. Can pay it all off at the drop of a hat if need be, but why should I when I can use other peoples' money for cheap or free? It's just like gun control. Guns themselves are no danger, just people. Some people should stay far far away from a gun...or a credit card

I agree with pigrider, do you listen to Dave Ramsey pigrider? the problem with using other peoples money for everything is the risk you take doing it, if you run up thousands a month on your CC and then run short on money or don't get paid your screwed and paying interest, or have a payment not posted to your account you have to take time out of your busy schedule to fix it, also studies have shown that when you use a credit card you spend appox 20% more than when you pay cash. but to each his own.

Thanks to all
Excellent posts, including OP and supplements.
I follow this forum daily as I hope to be O/O in one year - unless the economy go into the toilette. Having been in biz before, I can tell you it's the little things that kill ya. I still can't figure out anyone can haul for $1.oo + FSC..... Just beyond me. And to everyone who posts here, I appreciate it! I get a mental image of us all sitting on the veranda at GManmanor sipping mint juleps, eye balling the serving girls and everyone sharing calmly .... till Gman hears of someone doing 'cheap freight'

All the more reason why certain people should stay far away from credit. If they have to worry about those things they shouldn't be using credit. They have to know where credit fits into the business plan.
Studies also show people tend to overeat at buffets. Those are averages, they don't apply to everybody. Those that can't exercise self-discipline should stay away from a whole lot of things, credit included. If you have to worry about average behavior then certain things are not advisable.

I don't understand. All these books at truck stops(the free ones out side).
Hardly any of them pay over a 1.00 a mile. I've done the math as to the trips I do every week. I'd be making less than I am now being a company driver. I'm gonna get me a truck but I'm not gonna pull freight for free. If something goes bad on one trip your in the hole. But I see O/O everyday pulling for these compaines that don't pay jack. What gives I'd like to know what you guys charge for Reefer,Flatbed, lowboys. I need to figure out what kind of freight pays the most vs loads available. I know reefer never stops. Thats what I pulll now. Most of the O/O's I talk to on the road say specialize to make more money. whats your opinons?

The trouble with OPM lies between the theory and reality. Is OPM a good theory? Absolutely. Is it a reality? Maybe for a while but if you slip up it can ruin your life.
I used to work for one of the big 3 and we got deals on cars. It was such a good deal that we could lease the vehicle for 6 months then sell it for more than what you had in it. It got to be so predictable I put all the payments and all my gas on a credit card and paid the card off at the end of the six months when I traded the vehicle in. Then the bottom fell out of the used vehicle market and I wound up with $3,000 in credit card debt. Took me two years to pay it off. Gotta be careful because one wrong move will kill you.

But to answer your question above, some people simply do not spend more on their card than they can pay. They work their CCs the exact way that they would work the cash that they have to pay the bill in full at the end of the month. Most people who are paying off the card every month don't run their finances so close that a big bill would sink them. Rather they have emergency money in another account set aside. Dave Ramsey says he only uses debit cards. I don't know why. I think it is to be a good example to those people who have issues with CCs. Like not drinking around people who shouldn't drink. He doesn't seem to take into account the many people who have paid them off every month of their long life and have never been late or paid a penney of interest.
