One of the company trucks (2005 freightliner columbia) hit a deer earlier this past summer and it took out the rads and a ton of other components as it slid under the front bumper. I drive a columbia model as well and I must say there isn't a lot of protection down there, even for good sized road kill animals. 8" at most from the bottom of the rads to the road. Great design!

I whacked a deer a couple of months ago near here. It hit right where the bumper curves from the front around the driver's side. Somehow, it didn't even leave a scratch. When I pulled over to check for damage, I had to stare for a minute to convince myself I'd even hit it. No scratches, no blood, no hair, nothing. Neither I nor my boss could believe it.

Much better than the time we hit one with the POV while my wife was driving, and she ended up covered in the driver's side window.
