I agree if you are a true independent you should be paying for everything, other wise you are a company driver.

I think everyone should be responsible for their own taxes. It will give you a much different perspective about paying taxes if everyone had to sit down and write a check to the IRS every week.
My two cents. If you are an independent contractor shouldn't you be paying for the truck, fuel, maintenance, etc. If the company is doing that than you are an employee.
I agree it can be a gray area.

Social Security 15.2 % Fed Tax not sure State Tax not sure I have worked 1099 before...... I always figured 25/28 % and was OK...even got refunds a few years with deductions Yes it is a fine line with the IRS .....If you know upfront what your dealing with and the situation works for you then do what you need to do for you and your family .30 a mile and 1099 you will be getting screwed .....35-.40 it might be worth it...... I was getting 33 four years ago on 1099 for a small Co
