Thanks Brown 67 i couldn't remember which company it was

I agree if you are a true independent you should be paying for everything, other wise you are a company driver.

I think everyone should be responsible for their own taxes. It will give you a much different perspective about paying taxes if everyone had to sit down and write a check to the IRS every week.
I agree, people would be much more involved and would want to see how the money is being spent. What you don't see you don't miss.

My two cents. If you are an independent contractor shouldn't you be paying for the truck, fuel, maintenance, etc. If the company is doing that than you are an employee.
That's kind of what I was thinking, but if someone had their own ins., had control over when they worked picked their loads and so on, but used the owners truck (or tool if you will) to do the job, would they be an independent contractor?

I agree it can be a gray area.

Since know one was willing to answer your Question i will Try

Social Security 15.2 %
Fed Tax not sure
State Tax not sure

I have worked 1099 before...... I always figured 25/28 % and was OK...even got refunds a few years with deductions

Yes it is a fine line with the IRS .....If you know upfront what your dealing with and the situation works for you then do what you need to do for you and your family

.30 a mile and 1099 you will be getting screwed .....35-.40 it might be worth it...... I was getting 33 four years ago on 1099 for a small Co

Ditto.

I think his question was answered 110% by Gman. Some people don't bother to read the entire post, then give 1/2 an answer
