If he sent in a Quarterly IFTA averaging above 7.0 mpg, the state will return it as inaccurate and send you a fine for being late also. Indiana does the same thing.

We have a couple of major whiskey manufacturers in the state. I live about 1 1/2 hours from Jack Daniels. The more you drink the more relaxed one becomes. :wink:

Merrick, I usually don't cross the Florida line for less than $3/mile. But I am in a different area of the business. Lately, I have been offered rates as low as $1.20/mile. Rates are down. Part of the reason is the time of year. Another reason is the general economic slow down. Considering the rates for which you have been running, this is a really good rate. It is higher than many are getting. If you can hold those rates, you should do fine. I would think you could get something out of Florida with a reefer. There is a lot of nursery stock down your way. Some it goes all the way to the Northwest. I know an owner who used to have a reefer and that is mostly what he hauled when he got home. He would have a lot of stops along the way, but did well with the rates.

And also Merrick, if you are working your way out to California, the dry fall and cooler weather means we are getting lemons and oranges harvested. Someone in L.A. needs O/O's to go from LA to Salt Lake City (702 miles) and offering 1500.00. Not real exciting, but this means we are soon going to have loads of citrus going east.

You can get $1500 to SLC all year round...often for dry freight.

Lately, van freight rates seem to be higher than flat bed rates. A friend of mine is thinking about parking his flat bed and getting a dry van. :?

Yeah. Must be the cycle. Housing market in the tank, winter coming on must mean decks are dead. Thanksgiving and Xmas probably helps out the vans.

I've been taking a look at the flatbed rates once in awhile lately...ugly! I think you probably could do just as well with a dry van in a lot of areas. Of course, that's not saying much either :cry: That $1500 to SLC isn't worth much since rates coming out of there are usually brutal...assuming you can find something.
