I agree with your sentiment, but you know that if this guy orangetx saw is someone's first experience with a Shaffer driver, it's going to screw it up for the rest of us. Did you ever get out of the Easter logjam? We picked up some Milky Ways in Elizabethtown heading towards Georgia. We're in New Kingston tonight. but then SHE would have probably Kicked YOUR ass for interfering. And you would have gone to jail anyway. Unless you were Riding with them the last day or so-- how do you know-- She didn't deserve to be dumped somewhere? I'm not defending his rude, abusive behavior-- but, I've know many women who were living at the local "battered women's shelter"-- seems these women always -- keep repeating the same mistake over-and over - and keep finding NEW A-holes( the same type) it's a disease of mind/heart.

morning and being told-- I may be setting again UP HERE because of no freight. Maybe, OrangeTex is doing me/us a favor ---scaring off possible new comers. There's already too many trucks chasing too little freight here at Shaffer. Guess it's a good thing for your Trainer and You that trainers get first pick?- actually the dedicated drivers I think are 1st-- but it's always good to be important. Still, people gotta eat, so someone has to get the food to the DC's.

Where as it's true- that grocery hauling is very recession proof- pulling a reefer can have MAJOR pitfalls- Up until recently- I considered myself VERY lucky I choose Shaffer over OTHER reefer companies.( Because of good driver friendly- no pit fall freight) I.E. Candy loads, etc With the economy going the way it is-- less people have money for Sweets( at least it seems) therefore I've started to notice we're starting to pull from lesser quality shippers-- the same "garbage" that the low life reefer carriers Routinely have to deal with. 2) use to be in order to make money in this business- you NEEDED a FAST chicken truck- to run that produce, etc.<<< you're at Crete/Shaffer-- you don't have a fast truck. Crete is a large carrier- and has many possibilites to do a lot more drop/hook with dry loads- and they do run all 48. They should be able to keep you MOVING. The only downside I can see- is if they continue to shorten the length of haul-- and work the piss out of you + slice the week's productivity into 5 or 6 short hauls with like 1.5-1.75 days on each 500 mile hop, thus you end up less total miles and have to really work for you living.

Get a real job on the clock with O.T. after 8/40 hours. Run away from the coolie carriers. They ALL suck.

It's not funny. It's useless dribble from a pathetic person. The whole purpose of CAD is mainly for OTR trucking. To come here and bash OTR is, well, dumb.

HB: you're absolutely right about dry vs. reefer being a tough choice. I really don't care much about the freight itself except as far as it relates to my miles, my trips, etc, etc. Oh, and both my trainers were a little.... abrasive towards drivers from 'the other team'.
We hit the Knoxville trailer shop today as we were within a few miles, and he wanted to show me a good shop (meaning good attitude, quick, etc) Well, the 30 minute inspection turned into about 2 hours of work. This on a trailer that had an inspection sticker less than 60 days old. Gonna be in Marietta shop tonight or tomorrow, I think. Yay. CFM. Almost as entertaining as watching the monkeys at the zoo fling their feces at each other. But not as intellectually stimulating.

Now, when Monday comes, I call tell how many miles I will make this week, be home every night, and have my weekend off with the wife. Sitting at home every night beats sitting the weekend in some truck stop in the middle of nowhere because the company cannot keep good freight.

Week#12- the end of the line/ Final Straws
Ok, lets review. Chose the Pa load- because I knew I could drop it early saturday and (hopefully) keep moving...... boy was I wrong. There were Shaffer drivers setting since Friday. By the time I reached Pa and dropped at Hershey, there were 20 trucks setting and waiting for loads already. Shaffer was short 80 loads. This is just piss poor management. Companies like CFI and others KNOW how many trucks they got coming into a area- and when it gets over booked-- they can/will start setting down loads- short- at Terminals in route. And they are willing to call C H Robinson if needed( this is something Shaffer doesn't seem willing to do). So I sat in Carlisle Saturday Night all day Easter Sunday... sunday afternoon I get a load offer for Monday. Milton, VT for tuesday morning 6am or Someplace in Ohio for Tuesday 11am both short mile loads. I see VT(Vermont) and pulling a reefer I automatically hope---Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream(next run) Maybe even a altitude sensitive(super southern run) or bounce me over to Maine and grab a paper load. Certainly didn't want OH( only short crap comes out of there) So Monday comes- and I head up to grab my load out of Hazelton- first stopping by NK post office( next to yard) to mail off my E-Bay to those lucky bargain winners! Along the drive up to Vermont I'm diligent about sending in my 34reset info and my pta- and message the zone dispatcher I'll be empty and ready to roll first thing Tuesday and looking to make up the lost productive weekend. Am told NOT to get my hopes up-- freight is slow and they are looking as hard as they can. Spend the night at Consignee, unload Tuesday morning. When empty they say they have nothing for me....call back..the usual. 7:15am send empty call 7:18am get "no preplan exits" message 7:20am get "morning, empty call received nothing to offer at this time" 7:26am I send:"well roll the dice and make your best guess on where the next ld will be coming from- and I'll head that way- as I can not park here during their business hours- and will find the first aval place to park n rt toward that best guess-- this is Vermont- Where do they make Ben & Jerry's Ice cream? 7:40am send: "found it-- Colbyville, Vt ben & jerry's ice cream factory. call a broker- find some freight. I pull out of customers lot( just in time-as they were about to ask me to leave- again) and head southbound on I-89 toward Ben & Jerry's and away from Canada. I stop at the first rest area south of Burlington, Vt and send: 08:10am "this rest area doesn't allow overnite parking -- so it's only a temp solution. 08:19am receive; "10-4 hope to know soon" 10:49am I send: "do you know yet?" 10:51am I receive; "nothing yet" 12:15pm I send; "it's afternoon, got something yet?" 12:22 I receive; " u can try and get this early let us know and we can try and move the del up" 1) Saint Albans, VT p/u 0326 1500- 1500<------- that's Wednesday pu( and note: it's Tuesday Fairfield, NJ del 0327 0800-1600 dead head 13miles Loaded miles= 404 at first I hasitate to accept it-- then Bend over and grab my ankles as MAYBE the customer will load me a day early.......right? I arrive at the Shipper at 13:22 and they laugh at my feable attempt to get them to do more work today than they absolutely have to. The tell me my appointment time is 3pm tomorrow to come back then, so before I leave- I ask 1 simple question: When was the load "booked"? Answer: " The load was booked/scheduled MONDAY(Yesterday) So, this boys and girls is -- dispatch lying to the driver...... They played me all morning long telling me they didn't have anything... then that afternoon-- send it out.....knowing all along from the previous day-- they actually PLANNED to set my truck for 1.5 days to pickup a load only 13 miles from where I was scheduled to deliver. And they don't pay LAYOVER! and tried to make this look like "lack of freight" Called Heartland Recruiting Picked up the load Wednesday Afternoon as scheduled... Got call from Wife-- State notice that Poly-Trucking checked my MVR 20 minutes later- Recruiter from Poly-Trucking called and we did a phone interview and went over DAC and Application. Now, she said she would summit it to the HR Hiring manager and should be receiving a call from him/her ---"soon" if they're interested. Meanwhile, I forgot to mention-- they changed my load destination to 1 stop in New Jersey. Scheduled it soo tight--- that I can't take a legal 10hr break and deliver on time--- so I'm taking a 8hr break instead. Poly-Trucking has already sent/received Varification from Crete/Shaffer-- So this explains why I suddenly fell from grace-- and ended up on the Shit list this week----it's all down hill from here. |
