not in yet...we just got a second ray of hope-- got our fingers & toes crossed though. They sure are slow about getting around and "doing" anything- and
she really grilled me over that DAC.

WEEK#13 my starvation continues- with some self inflicted Fasting thrown in

WEEK#13
beginning Friday 28th March- Friday 4th April

well- 1600 hundred mile week last week-- I tell them I'm going Home-

So, they must have been tired of my bitching and moaning-- so the forked/coughed a load up right away.

Pennsauken, NJ- Manchester, Pa- Russellville, Ar

1253 miles

I'm empty Sunday around noon-- and they send me a load offer.

I tell them -- I'm heading home

I arrive home around 5pm Sunday
take Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday off
I cleaned all the heavy stuff out-- I think I can get the rest in a trunk + back seat of a rental car now.
I call in Wednesday afternoon-- let them know I'll be available Thursday Morning.

Thursday I deadhead to Memphis and p/u a spot trailer bound for Mechanicsburg, Pa And drop 9:30 Friday night.

1117

Week#13 total:

2370 paid miles + 3.25 days off(in the middle)

week#14;

Begins evening of Friday; April 4th, 2008
with the following load offer for the weekend out of Pa.
Sent out 10 pm Friday night:

1) Palmyra,Pa
p/u 0406 2100-2100
Dayville, Ct
del 0407 0630-0630 Miles 323

2) Hazleton, Pa
p/u 0406 1600-1600
Frederksburg, Va
del 0407 0800-0800 Miles 265

3) Hazleton, Pa
p/u 0406 1600-2359
Breinigsville, pa
del 0407 1300-1300 Miles 47

Mom taught me If you can't say anything nice-- don't say anything at all.
I went to bed.

Saturday morning; I bob-tailed to Waffle House- had a nice breakfast-- loading a rental car on an empty tummy is bad.

Then I was asked if I had a empty trailer-- no, there were none available-

then She sent a message-- " lets bob-tail after this one"
and sent the following load offer:

#1) SAME AS NIGHT B4

I replied --- thanks but no thanks-- I just came from the house- because of no freight, no miles-- cleaned out the truck. Doesn't look like this is going to work out.. Is Ops Manager In today?

She replied that Yes he was, that she would void me off the load offer-- all she had this weekend was New England.

This is the problem right here:

90% of all National Shaffer Freight goes INTO PA( Philadelphia Area)
90% of all National Shaffer Freight comes OUT OF PA-

Seems like; 50% of there New England Regional drivers are HOME on the weekend. the other 50% has been dispatched out Thursday & Friday on all the OTR outbound freight-- regional drivers on loads outbound to Ga, TX, Ca, Wi---- everywhere except New England Region---

So when the OTR drivers empty out Friday & Saturday MORNING---- you guessed it-- all that's left is to cover THEIR regional freight!

Interestingly; New Kingstown is still in charge of dispatching that area's freight-- and the Regional drivers( home fleet) have 1st pick.

No... I called the recruiter at Heartland first- and found the next orientation is a limited orientation and doesn't start until April 14th, and they haven't sent the employment varification form to Crete/Shaffer yet-- I had them holding off on that until after my 3year Anniversery May 5th. Wouldn't want to leave 2 weeks vacation pay on the table....

So, bite my I keep my mouth shut- didn't call Ops manager-- If I had, I'm sure he'd been more than willing to say--- so what, just leave the keys with dispatch.

Then I called the rental car agent-- a car Home or to Iowa City, Ia would have cost a small fortune + there would be a weeks waiting for that April 14th orentation class + I'm still hoping Poly Trucking will ring my number- before I take the plunge at Heartland.

So, after a 2 hour "cooling off" I returned to my truck and sent a message--
What's available Monday? Since all you have this weekend is New England and that's not acceptable. Been there- done that last week-- and ended up with an additional 1.5days setting in VT. Not gonna repeat that.

Got 3 load offers for Monday Freight-

Cleveland, Tn
Nicklasville, KY
Edwardsville, IL

I chose the Cleveland because the p/u time was showing Monday 00:01 am-- and there was a good chance it might be already loaded( which it was)
Problem is it's scheduled to deliver- Wednesday Morning 06:30

I'm setting here at the receiver Monday Morning-- gonna try to get it off today.

Also, we load M&M Mars out of Cleveland, Tn... and this load looked like best choice for next load miles.
The Ky can't unload early(been there done that) and wasn't scheduled to load until 17:00 Monday( remember it was Saturday)

The Edwardsville-- would have gotten me closer to Home but not close to a Terminal where I can turn in truck. It would have been a Drop anytime load too- but the p/u again would have been Monday- and the reload when empty would have been short( but Maybe- KC area- where I could return equipment to that yard)

Anyway, we'll see what Morning brings here in Cleveland, Tn.

Week#14 In progress:

Load#1: 663 miles
Load#2: 701 miles

1364 miles as of "hump day" Wednesday

now the Crete/Shaffer A/C is against me- had it "repaired" 2 weeks ago at Columbus Yard--- and it was cooling fine up until Sunday night-

guess all they did was charge it again- and didn't bother to check of leaks.

blowing nothing but hot air, was 91 degrees in here Sunday night & again last
night-- takes hours to cool off- after parking( shutting off the engine)

on a side note- this + the shop shutting the idle rpm down to 700rpm is improving the fuel mileage.

Hey headborg, be careful. After setting the idle lower the next step will be that the driver pushes truck and trailer to pickup and del. to save some more fuel.
