You want a jakebrake, and a set of straights with that? :P
With 5+ years otr experience ya sure .. the straights are nice but can get annoying cause the last truck i had with 7 inch straights had a harmonic noise from the stacks at about 78 -80 mph . thanks but no thanks on maverick.

Double Ditto,

There are none of the big companies that I am aware of, that have anything running over 68 or 70, and most are set at 65. Fuel consumption and insurance are the main reasons, some say safety, but the biggie is fuel consumption.

There is no reason to run over 70 anyhow! My current company truck (one of only 4) will do 85, I think in the last month, I have only run much over 70 once, and that was a run I did last week from San Antonio to El Paso. Other than that, 68 to 70. Texas DOT is to thick these days to run much over the limit.

Edit: In Kansas, maybe you should look into the Bull Hauler outfits. They have triple digit trucks, staights, and jakes. Would fit the bill to a T,

By your own truck and lease on with someone if you want a triple digit truck. Hope you can afford the insurance.

To each their own . i don't need a triple digit truck but if i'm stuck behind some stupid 4-wheeler on a two lane somewhere I actually like to have the ability to pass instead of following them. If i wanted to be a bull hauler again I would been there done that. Never had a ticket before in a big truck . So I guess that some of us just have the ability to control our trucks . But it's all the other morons that don't have that self control that have ruined it for the rest of us.

I Go in for a driving test on friday so i can pick up my truck after the driving test . And yes it's a long and tall Pete Big Cat .

Who said anything about tickets are not being able to control their trucks? And economics has nothing to do with that either. With fuel prices the way they are, the owner operators that use to think as you do, are the ones I see on the road doing 62, 65, or so mph on the road, and getting 6 + mpg now, instead of 5 or less. For those of us that have respect for the owners of the trucks we drive, and understand those factors, driving a bit slower is not such and inconvenience. Especially when the monthly mileage bonus comes in.

Anyhow, good luck with your new venture!
