I drive a Company truck. A "pre-ban" 07 9200i, nice Cat C13/ 430 yes screwed down to 65mph, blah blah blah... (Eaton straight 10.)
This is just an opinion.. I do understand any company's policy of screwing it down to 65mph. As a Regional Gig I run TX, OK, parts o LA and AR with occasional visits over to a lovely spot in AL..
Lotsa hills.. country backroads.
I'm a "shade tree" mechanic. No 'certs', just a lot of experience with wrench-slinging, Factory manuals and a decent Aptitude for the subject. I'm not a Super Trucker, not in the blood nor the family background. A career change put me here now 2.6 yrs behind the wheel as a ClassA with a PTDI Cert from the school I went to.. I haven't been around Big Trucks all my life. But I can 'screw down or screw up' a John Deere Bosch/ Roosa injector pump...

I would like to know, from those o you here who know 'from Shinola', how much difference if any there would be in the Power Rating from an "uncorked" C13/430.. I don't know what gears they got in the "chunks" but my primary issue with the set-up is the drastic power loss when going up nearly Any incline, loaded...
Ground speed is not an issue for me. Like many of you, most o my routes aren't 70MPH+- superslabs. I pay attention to the Posted Speed Limits for more reasons than one..
But boy Howdy, man, in spite of a decent 'internal radar' and every trick o "looking ahead" - the problem o choking down on even *little hills* is a Safety Factor to me, like many o you. It's truly frustrating to be downshifting into 8th on, say, I-20/ E TX, but especially certain On Ramps facing an uphill grade - merging into Super Slab traffic with your foot thru the firewall at 7th/8th gear with a nearly new but castrated Cat with a cork up it's rectum. :x
And of course how many times have we found ourselves in one o those famous "wads" o big trucks, and you're in the Granny with a Corked Rig.. and here comes another Corker on the On Ramp ...
I mean, with a wink and a nod, 4wheelers can be dealt with if they've got a case o the Molasses Merge but trying to accommodate Big Trucks in the proper manner is dammnably difficult with a Corked Cat, (or what-have-you.)

Summarizing: (and specific to the C13/430HP).. Does anyone know for a fact what the actual Brake Horse Power is with a 65MPHrestrictedC13? And is an 'uncorked' C13/430 that much better dealing with inclines under load?

Gentlemen, let'er rip..
Blast me if you'd like, forgive me if you're so inclined.
But the Power Issue is a legitimate concern as far as I'm concerned..
Things are UNsafe enough out there.
Thank you.

Dont Count Maverick out yet - cutting SOME trucks back due to lead foot and not knowing how to shift truck. NOT EVERYONE though. Some of those Maverick drivers do drive slower than others because they like that fat bonus check every quarter. But over all - they get home weekends and no complaints here... You have to look at over all picture....

well for one thing, who cares how fast your truck goes????? Im an O/O and can go as fast as i want but still dont do it, some people on here would overlook a company paying .60 cents a mile to go drive for wobbly wheels trucking making .15 cents a mile but thats a good deal because they can go 80mph, do yourself a favor if you want a fast truck, go to the dealership, buy you a shining new truck, get yourself that shinny new trailer, and get out there and run with the big boys, in probably less than a year with fuel prices the way they are you be a company driver sooner than you think
