what can tell me about this motor? i have full records of it. seems the motor was pretty good. the turbo was replaced 90k ago and the ecm was also replaced. it also shows the cam sensor was replaced. is it a overall good motor?

 

I have had good service out of CAT motors, but there is no way to tell how good any particular engine is without doing an oil analysis and/or a dyno. You can start the engine and drive the truck and get an idea of the condition of the engine, but without hooking it up to a computer and checking it you won't know for sure. Which engine is it?

 

i'm almost postive that its a bridge motor between the 6nz and the acert motors. everything matches up when the computer is pluged in. so that checks. i'll get the #'s when i see it again which should be today or tomorrow.

 

My Truck has a Bridge Motor, MBN in it. When I bought it many people say it was a Bridge from good to bad and would not last. Prior to buying it, I had the dyno run, checked out great, oil anyalsis run, checked out great. only motor work was overhead ran. Got over a million miles, still running great, had truck going on 4 years, avg over 5 miles hauling logs heavy 86,000 to 88,000 each load, with 393 gears.

The main thing I would suggest before you buy any motor is:

1. Have it dyno tested, anyone buying a truck should always do this.
2. Oil Anyalsis done: doesn't matter if you are buying it after you have drove it as a Company Truck brand new for 6 months, Oil anyalsis will tell you before something is going bad, kinda like CSI on TV.

 

papa rick, did you do anything to your truck? from what i read you have to change out the mufflers, and ecm to get this thing to run half way decent. the truck is a ex ryder truck. (if you go to their sight 697600 stock number) it has 3.73's and a 10 speed. when i test drove it it seemed under real light throttle the pitch of the motor changed not in a bad way at all just changed. from what i gather its normal.

 

Just got back on here tonight firebird, no I haven't had to do anything to mine since I got it Sept 2007, I heard horror stories about the bridge motor, but either mine never had the same problems, or it was fixed prior to me buying it. I have put 300,000 on it and nothing other than overhead run.

 

We have a 2000 C15 6NZ. Bought it almost new. IIRC it has just shy of a million miles on it. It's had an alternator and I think a turbo too. It's never been cracked open...not even to have the valve lash set.

Also have a 2005 two turbo Acert (MXS I think). The VVA housing on this one busted apart, cracked the head in the bargain. Cost us around $13,000.
