Auto Slack Adjusters. How Long of a Stroke. other..
Hi. Being new to the board I'll keep it simple.
I drive 8 Axle Transfer Dumps, Lowboy, etc and as a "Senior Driver" am always trying to help the Maint Div "get things dialed in." Some of the adjusters on some of the trucks have what I consider too long of a stroke. None of the newest "long stroke" types. Typically from 1 1/2" to over 2. Checked with full pedal and air pressure. (Out of legal). I maintain that they should of course not be adjusted more than an emergency to get back to get replaced, and as I'm aware. being caught "out" at a Level 1 leaves you Out of Service until they are Replaced. I'd like a citation of DOT Regs for this if there are any, and an idea of where Auto Slack Adjusters should be. Also any additional informatio from some kind soul about the different kinds of adjusters that cannot be "horsed" to back them off. I'm of the opinion that if you "horse" them and feel clicks, you are buttering the teeth. The newer ones with a smooth "drag" are permissable to "horse". ALSO the types of grease that are workable and those that are too stiff for the SAs. Thanks for any reply, or information I can forward to Our Shop Foreman. He's a good young guy and needs references to help with our company records and justifications for expenditures. Thanks and Happy New Year. Happy Eric.

I know meritor slacks specifically ask for polyurea grease, but any NLGI 2 lithium base grease will work.
meritor slacks need the adjusting pawl pulled away for any adjustment. Haldex have an internal clutch, it's just a real bitch with these. I prefer meritors. What you're looking for is specific to the brake chamber, not the slack adjuster itself. http://www.icbc.com/Licensing/pdfs-c...ent_MV2677.pdf http://goliath.ecnext.com/coms2/gi_0...-the-2006.html |
