auto vs. manual
Which will have the least mainteance problems ? Im just curious to know. I drive a automatic 9400 eagle with a cat. So, far no problems with it. But, my company is going to manuals in a couple of months. Just wanted to know is there any big diffrence in the two.

Well, with the autos, a computer is doing the shifting. Can probably do it better than all but the best drivers, but when something goes wrong, the cost to repair and downtime can be brutal. Of the autos, I have prefered the 3 pedal as opposed to the ultra shift 2 pedal style. Haven't been in one for a while, but I also tended to put it in "manual" setting frequently so I could dictate when the shift would occur while at the same time letting the transmission to the actual shift. A manual just makes you work for your money, even though I and many other do prefer them. For many drivers, using a 3 pedal auto and using the manual mode would be an ideal thing. A manual will have the least maintenance problems, but only if the driver does not abuse it.

probably a mater of preferance, I like manual myself but thats mostly what I have drove. I have drove 3 petal autos and 2 pedal ultrashifts. out of the 2 I have a preferance for the ultrashift.

I drove trucks with both auto and manual. When I had an 'auto' I was dying for a manual Now that I have a 13 speed, I want to have either a 10 (more durable and easier to repair) or an auto. With current high torque engines a 10 speed is more than enough. I've been having trouble with the splitter on my 13 from Day 1. From what I learned from my friendly neighborhood gear shop, it's a common fault of 13 speed trannys (when I split 6 or 7 from low to high, sometimes there is jerking because of poor synchronization).

Dad has a International eagle 9400i with a c-15 and the 10 speed auto. He hasn't has any problems with the transmission and the truck is a 2003 with 760K miles. I've driven it a few times and like the auto more than a manual.
