If there is a problem with the pickup tube it could only be drawing fuel at the top half of the tank. Air leak, rust, etc.....Easy to take out and inspect. I always eliminate the easy (stupid) things first. Then work on the harder stuff next.

i crawled under the truck on my last trip to Maryland and didn't see an obstruction in the actual vent tube. but like a previous poster said its make the metal "L" connector on the tank which connects to the vent tube. i will have the shop pull the fairing (fiberglass covering the fuel tank) and get a better look at it

if you're suggesting that the tube might be cracked 1/2 way down, that would be incorrect as well.... if that were the case; when the fuel level reaches that cracked portion, it will suck air and shut him down
