I look for 1 and 1/2 inch of pedal freeplay. When you fully depress the clutch, the bearing hits the cluth brake and stops all the movement and it can be hard to get in to gear...that is normal. Same as trying to put one in gear with the engine off - it will go in some, but not others.

Sometimes it helps to cut the oil filter open, if there's much going wrong it'll be trapped there. There are places that can analyse the filter as well.

I have an oil annalisis done ever oil change and open the oil filter to look in there. Just a regular can opener ($1.95 at Walmart) works fine and don't make shavings.
