Oil in water and Water in oil
I am looking into getting a 1997 Fl century classic with a 500hp Detroit but it has a small amount of water in the oil and has some oil in the water. The man that has it now tells me it is the water pump and other people tell me its the oil cooler. I can't smell anything like it is getting to the pistons but it could be a pin hole in the liner as well. It was rebuilt at 800,000 and now has 1,374,000. What do yall think? Thanks for any help.

oil cooler ...... but, one has to wonder how many times that oil has been changed since the leak began. i would recommend dropping the pan and pulling down at least one rod and one main bearing ---- water in the oil is bad

... and.... i would want to see those bearings myself ; they would be the window to the condition of the internal components that you cannot see

Could be a cracked block. I had a small amount of water in my oil when my motor blew and it ended up being a cracked block.
I would not buy that truck at all. It will cost you more to fix it than it is worth. For everyday that you're down for repairs, that's big $$$ that adds up. Good luck |
