Parts shortage

Parts shortage
I don't know if I'm the only one having this problem, but my truck has been in the shop due to leaking air tanks since last Wednesday, and I was told today that it would be tomorrow at best and Friday at worst before the parts would arrive, after them telling me for the past few days that they'd arrive today. This for an issue that was diagnosed the same day I arrived at the shop. It seems awfully odd for a part like air tanks to take over a week to get shipped. For the record, one of my then co-workers had this exact part that needed replacement, and it only took 3 days. Am I kissing something here, or did RoadCheck cause a backlog of trucks in shops?

Sometimes it can take time to get in parts. I had a transmission go out on one of my trucks a few years ago. It took them almost a week to get a transmission from Phoenix to Alburquerque. It seemed like a long time to get a transmission such a short distance, especially for the $8,500 price tag (including labor). I was not a happy camper, either. I paid a driver for every day that he sat plus his motel bill. It would be great if breakdowns only occurred when the truck was at home.

Or they take the cheapest way of shipping. I used to sell parts and we could order a part and put on our normal weekly order and get delivered on say Monday on a pallet with other parts sooner than ordering it and shipping seperetly because we would choose the cheapest shipping. It all depends where it's coming from and who and how it's shipped.

Free shipping isn't always a good thing

It appears that it may have been the 'cheapest shipping' problem. I don't know where these tanks came from, but my then co-worker said that his came from Canada, where they were manufactured. The other odd thing about this was that there were 6-10 trucks just sitting in the bays there with nobody working on them. The shop foreman told Dad that this was because they didn't have the parts to fix any of those trucks. Some of them were still there when I left, too.
