Default Strange smell from engine

Ok - I have a new one and just wondered what it might be:

When my truck is running, the engine smells like rotten eggs. You know - the nasty sulpher smell. The smell is coming from the engine compartment itself, not the exhaust.

Any clues so I can pass it on to our mechanics when I get back in this weekend?

I do believe they do 10, maybe 15k pm's. Mine was last done 5,000 miles ago at most.

Put the truck in the shop today. The mechanic is thinking that a battery may be busted or the alternator is over-charging.

It's a Volvo. The batteries are directly below the drivers door.

I wish I had internet yesterday. When I read the first post, batteries is the first thing I would have suggested.
