exactly...but i guess the owner told me that he never ran into this kind of situation before...

but i told him that if he wants money, go after Cat.

i didn't quite understood him either...trying to talk me into giving him a portion for something i didn't do...

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

I went through a similar situation with a DD60 several years ago. Had it inframed by a DD dealer. First run out to the west coast, ran good, but used 18gl of oil in 6k mi!!! Took it back, and they agreed that "might" be a problem. (duh!). Handed me a sheet of paper and asked me to document the milages I actually put the oil in on the next run, which I dutifully did, used 22 gl of oil that time, still ran good.

I finally got them to agree to go in and do it the job over under warranty, but it was 3 weeks before I got it back. I didn't pay them a nickle for that job, but the downtime cost me a fortune.

You should not have to pay for anything. You'll pay enough in downtime.

CAT dealer??

Never got a clear explanation of what went wrong with that rebuild either. It was explained that got some "bad" powerpacks. Personally, I thing someone intalled the oil control rings upsidedown, but they wouldn't admit to it.

Hope it all works out, quickly.

the guy says cat will pay for what ever the damage is, but what about the labor??he's trying to talk me into paying the labor....or from $55 to $20 some an hour...he'll work with me...

what do you guys think????

it's still in full waranty and i told him that it wasn't like i neglected the motor...if he tries to make me pay for some portion of the labor what would you say if you was in my situation????
careful... it could have been a fuel injector wash the cylinder down...

Something broke somewhere and got caught up in the cylinder/piston. It could have been from anywhere the oil or fuel flows. I am not a mechanic. The same thing happened to my F350.

In my case, the entire engine. Remember I am not a mechanic. There was a hole in one of my cylinders. A sleeve would not work nor would honing it or over boring it. In your case any one of those may work. It all depends on how deep the scores are.
