Part-Time Weekends Only: Is It Possible?
I figured if anybody could answer this question, it would be the folks on this forum. Can anyone think of a driving job where whatever needs to be delivered is delivered over a weekend, with the truck setting out on Friday and returning no later than Monday? Is there such a thing?

Well
You might find an O/O who wants someone to hit an extra run while he's home weekends. Wont be easy. And you can bet not unless you have lots of experience.
Theres another option. You could get an f250/350 and haul cars on weekends. Thats becoming more common (small car haulers.. not the weekends thing). You wont get rich but it may just buy you the equipment.

The main problem you will run into will be that most receivers and shippers are not open on the weekends. That is why many of us try to run long over the weekend, so that we aren't just sitting at a truck stop.

I got out of it because I was having problems with the logbook. Remember, any hours worked on the weekend go against your 60/70 for the week. Also, I was getting sick and tired of working weekends. I'll never work weekends again - not for any amount of money. Before the mail gig, I drove for a major hospital system shuttling patients to-and-from airports and hotels. One of the guys I work with drives a limo for a high-end stripclub in town. He's got all kinds of stories about people having sex and doing drugs in the back of the limo. If you're interested in anything involving passengers, make sure you get the -P- endorsement on your CDL. Contact temp agencies in your town - they've got a list of companies looking for local for-hire temp drivers. There's usually a decent amount of work because most guys don't like working weekends. |
