Do new additives really save you fuel??

I have used Lucas and believed it works but for $ 21 a gallon the fuel savings was a break even to a $21 lose

As far as anti gel in the winter you need to start in Oct to get the water out of system

I run PPF year round add a bottle once a week (it mixes with water to remove from the tank ) plus other wonder drugs ... local parts store ( truck pro ) has it for $ 4 a bottle truck stops $ 6-7 a bottle

I dont think it works for everyone....i have a 2000 freightliner i run local, i fueled up 2 weeks ago on monday(675 bucks) ran 1,935 miles all week 7.14 miles per gallon.....this past week fueled up monday(693 bucks) with lucas fuel additive ran 2024 miles 7.33 miles per gallon..... and all loads were the same(weight wise) i dont think for $21-26 dollars that it pays for itself!!

i don't think that Lucas helps your milage, but it does have some nice injector cleaning agents in it. I have used it about once a month in my truck and i have only replaced one injector in almost 600,000 miles and my engine still runs very well. My tip? I always have my idle set at 800 rpm and if i'm sitting and need to idle i idle up to 1100. on a N-14 cummins i was told to always keep your oil pressure at 25 lbs.

If you want to clean your injectors, just go to any parts store and get a quart of automatic transmission fluid. Use about a pint in each tank when you fill up. It will clean the injectors and not cost nearly as much as some of these expensive lubricants.

Thats what I always used 8)

And slowing down will save you big bucks. My Pete when running 75mph was in the 5 mpg range. Once I slowed down to 65 and kept my RPMs between 1100-1400 I was getting 6.2-7.5 mpg depending on where I was.

I was thinking about that myself!
Got my fuel checked, more than a few times, if they'd find evidence of dye in it, could cost you an arm and a leg! :shock:

Yeah I remember there used to be a premium "red" diesel but i think ???(hey I am from the 70's) I was told they could not do it anymore because of the red dye.

I would suppose that a single pint diluted over 140 gallon diesel in a tank would not have enough die in it to be noticeable. However I knew a fellow that was doing this, I thought he put in 2 quarts, got checked and they did discover it. He just showed them what he was doing, they anaylsed a sample of his fuel to confirm the presence of tranny fluid and let him go on his merry way.
