Hey Cyanide - Thanks for your posts! They've been a great help.

Rich2189 - Have you been working for superior long? I am hoping to work out of that terminal. I gave the national number a call a few days ago but the guy I spoke to said he would give me a call back when it was closer to my road test date on 1/09. How do you like Rahway? Is it worth the trip out from LI and how is the pay? Being from NYC you know how much cost of living is out here. Thanks.

Paul

Thanks. Do you think it will be worth the trip out from LI? Thats a good 90 min commute right?

Cyanide - How many hours did you avg in a day when you were a company driver? Does anyone work part time as a driver?

Kimoyo, I once read a tank yanker say its more than worth driving 100 miles for a job at superior. Once I get out of training I'm going to apply at a terminal 100 miles away in the next state.I want to be a system driver and go out for the week then come back in.This way I drive up to the terminal once then go home once for hometime. Best of Luck

Using the average figures from what I've done in the first eight weeks as an I/C, here's what I expect to achieve over the course of a year.

$135,000 Est. Minimum Gross Revenue

.0076 Accounting
.0054 Physical Damage Insurance
.0044 FHUT
.0033 Bobtail Insurance
.7108/mile

Some notes for readers to remember.

1. I am getting more time off now to be with my family then I did as a company driver. That alone coupled with #2 below is why this is working out so great for me.

2. Regardless of what income some drivers must obtain in order to make ends meet, I am doing quite well with what I am earning. I am not in a position where I must make a super-high rate of pay. My family and I's needs are being met, and met very nicely. And frankly, when it comes to my business that is all that matters.

3. I am on a dedicated fleet that runs out loaded, comes back empty. I have intentionally asked for the longer runs (albeit lower paying) as they fit into my schedule better than the very short, very high and much better paying loads, such as the one I started this week off with that was a whopping 86 miles round trip, and will pay me about $340. Or the one I did a couple of weeks ago that was 251 miles round trip, and paid $495.

;-) Y'all be safe and take care, I'll be back with more later...

Thanks for the props first off!

Because I have deliberately asked for the longer (550-610 mile one-way), yet lower paying loads on the dedicated fleet I run for. Remember that almost all of my runs now are out loaded, back empty (hence my 43% deadhead rate), with the exception of when I run a system load to get to/from Florida for time off there. The way I'm running fits my style much better, and allows me to do more of what is important to me. If I were to run like the typical driver out of my terminal, I'd run daily trips that would be much shorter and make much more per trip, yet my day would be starting anywhere between 0300-0500 on average, though I would be done well before noon most days. For example, I ran a load very early Monday that was 86 miles round trip and paid almost $350 to the truck, and did a run several weeks ago that was about 240 miles round trip that made me $494. However, both of those runs had me up and rolling by 0400. Nice runs but entirely too early for this slacker...

However, for one I'm not interested about getting up super early ever again after many years in the military, and two, regardless of how much money there is to be made, I'm not money-hungry as some may think.

Hey Carlo

I agree with u 100% money is not everything I too value more home time over a larger bank account. I was mainly asking if the potential is there to make more if u want too.. I talk to one of the terminal managers at superior I'm going down to the avenel terminal wednesday to sign papers for the background check..I'm really looking forward to this especially after reading post from U mike3fan and maniac,skywalker....Good luck and keep post coming...Good luck and stay safe

Oh yes, the potential to make much more is definitely there, especially running the system. Good luck and stay around and in touch!

Congratulations on the change Cyanide, sounds like it'll fit your goals better. Don't know if you have children, mine always enjoy when I have time to take them to school or sit in on a class (wonder if they'll feel that way in high school...).

Questions:
Does Superior cover your liability insurance on the truck? Don't see it in your list.

Also, you posted "Accessorial Rates:
NYC Boroughs/Long Island Pay (per load going in or coming out): 62%." 62% of what?

I sure do appreciate all the time you, Maniac, mike3fan and the other tanker yankers put into your posts on here. Merry Xmas!
