Not to be a wiseguy. But have you even pulled a load for Superior?

Yes, it's a good company, I left and came back with my tail between my legs, but it's nothing to go totally gah-gah over. Fact of the matter is freight is a bit slow, we don't drive the nicest equipment, and it's still truck driving.

The good - a management culture that embraces a bottom up approach (the guy doing the job is where improvement comes from), the guy driving is a professional and doesn't need baby sat, good benefits at a fair price to the employee, and driver autonomy.

Not trying to dampen your enthusiasm. But we are part of the overall economy and there ain't no denying that freight is slow, and a lot of noses are getting brown trying to get a few more miles (it doesn't work - better to keep your dignity!).

If I am out of line, I sincerely apologize.

KY24's Dog and Pony Show

KY 24's Seat in class

A clear, unobstructed shot...

Booby Trapped!

Wait til what comes next!!!!! That is, if YouTube will upload the damn video! If not, I'll just describe the event as even if it makes it on here you won't be able to hear anything except everyone laughing at KY24...

While KY24 and the rest of class doing their Thursday lunch special, I infiltrated the classroom -lol- and changed his name tag to what shows in the pics (thanks to Harleypiper for the idea there!), and also set the booby trap underneath it, consisting of his dog-and-pony (compliments of Baby Bullseye and I). I hid in the spare room with a view directly across from his position as they returned. A few moments went by and nobody really noticed anything different about the name tag, not even KY24. After a few, I decided it was time to act and made a phone call to involve the head instructor (Jack) before they resumed class. As they were all "smoking and joking", Jack returned into the room asked KY24 what the heck was wrong with his name tag, as he's calling him KY Jelly now.

KY24 reaches down and picks up his name tag to discover the name change, but didn't notice his DAP (dog-and-pony). He immediately accuses Harleypiper of being in there and sabotaging him since Harley started the whole KY Jelly thing on here a few posts back. Now mind you, these guys in class have no idea who this "Harleypiper" character is so they're thinking he's nuts. But it gets better! As he's sitting his name tag back down he discovers his DAP and get s a classic "WTF!" look on his face and then realizes the true mastermind behind this ambush. So now he starts going off on this Cyanide/Carlo character and has everyone again wondering "Who the hell is he talking about?" Heck, Jack even played it off that he didn't quite remember who I was! So then he (KY24) goes into this big explanation to everyone about why I call him a DAPS for being a D.C. Barracks Marine, as he's proudly holding his action figure and waving it around. Then Jack finally informsl him that he's been had and captured on film. He scours the room looking for a camera and I, then finally notices the only place I could be to get a clear, unobstructed shot of the entire affair. Lots of laughter from everyone, and back to the normal class schedule.

Ponce... I am still extremely enthusiastic about the company at my 2.5 year mark, and am sure that many others share that sentiment. Jason has worked for a company that is one of the few that pays better than we do for being non-union, and I'm sure he is ecstatic that he isn't jumping from that into a position where he'll be getting screwed out of money, working for free, and dealing with silly b.s. games. Myself and Skywalker have spoke with him at great lengths about our experiences here and what can be realistically expected to achieve. I'm confident that he'll do very well here. The only issue I see him having is that he's never pulled tanks before, and will need to adapt his driving style to accommodate that. That and learning how to use the system to his advantage to maximize his earnings.

Notice I didn't say cheat the system, but use it. I run across far too many drivers that b**** and moan about not making any money because they're still in that mentality of having to run miles upon miles to make good money, and don't fully understand and/or use the pay package in their favor when away from their home terminal. The bad thing is many don't listen when I explain things to them. They'd rather gripe and complain so I let them be if that's what makes them happy! You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink... Or in the case of some of these drivers, an ass!

It may just be a job, but IMHO it's a job that I personally enjoy doing and am proud to say I do. Compared to all of the other companies I've driven for over the years, what Superior offers beats them all hands-down, even if you combined the best of what they offered. None of them offer the combination of home time and income like we do, especially considering my situation. On the flip side... No, it's not perfect here and no company ever will be, but for my family and I it's the best thing going.

I'm simply curious though, if you say driving here at Superior is nothing to get excited over then what prompted you to return other than the reasons you listed above, and where did you go and do after you left us before?

Howdy all... I just got done reading every single post on this thread... Yeah, 27 pages of them...

Anyway, I'm driving for Heartland Express now and they are about to break me. Also, I'm getting tired of the same old same old of dry van.

I don't have my tanker or HazMat, so I'm thinking of getting my tanker pretty quick and then looking at Carry Transit. Does anyone have any recent info on them or advice? I live just north of Knoxville, TN (about 100 miles from Kingsport). Do I need to live closer to a Carry terminal, or will this be o.k?

I'd like to have something where I'm out 5-7 days then home 1-2 with my family. Also, I need to know who to call about getting a job. I don't have any numbers for Carry/Superior... any of them.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am looking at Carry because I don't have a HazMat (and never had). Please let me know what you think.

Also (for Cyanide) I think I met someone the other day who works on the same dedicated IC account you do. This was before I even started reading this post (and he got me thinking about Superior/Carry) a couple weeks ago at the TA in Seymour, IN. He was a Superior IC with a pretty new Freightliner Columbia. He told me the name of the place he hauls dedicated for, but I can't remember it right off. I know he said he gets lots of empty miles since the customer doesn't want anything else in their tanks. He was on his was back from delivering in AL. I never even got his name. I remember he said he was in his early 60's and driving a dark blue Freightshaker.
