Superior Carriers and Carry Transit

I sat in the seat to the immediate left when I was in class. Its kind of funny how the class never really got boring. I think everyone should visit The Mouse's Ear while in Kingsport
Were still hurting bad up here in Maine. Unfortunately we rely on the paper mills for work. Rumford has just annouced permanent lay offs of 137? employees. I only worked 3 days this week. Only was day was actually planned work. I luckily was called in for two days. One of which consisted of pulling tanks in and out of the wash bay all day. Pull a tank in, sit for an hour, pull a tank out and bring another in, sit an hour... all day. Took a few nice naps paid so I guess I cant complain. I was definately a lot like Ken24 when I first started but Im definately more like Ponce now. I still enjoy it, its just the "newness" has worn off.

Back to business, all the silly stuff aside...
Also (for Cyanide) I think I met someone the other day who works on the same dedicated IC account you do. This was before I even started reading this post (and he got me thinking about Superior/Carry) a couple weeks ago at the TA in Seymour, IN. He was a Superior IC with a pretty new Freightliner Columbia. He told me the name of the place he hauls dedicated for, but I can't remember it right off. I know he said he gets lots of empty miles since the customer doesn't want anything else in their tanks. He was on his was back from delivering in AL. I never even got his name. I remember he said he was in his early 60's and driving a dark blue Freightshaker.
But as a system company driver you will run a much higher amount of loaded miles and, when you're out sitting at a customer, another terminal, or anywhere else away from your home terminal and not rolling you'll be getting paid for it one way or another. You just simply must understand exactly how the pay package works. It's not hard to figure out, though some drivers try to make it out that it is and then find some excuse to b**** about how they're getting the shaft. Like an old saying that Skywalker, KY 24, myself, and I'm sure quite a few others adhere to goes, "ATTENTION TO DETAIL". As for the extreme slowdown we are enduring now, it's only a matter of time before it passes and business will be back to normal. I myself am taking an extra couple of days off due to a lack of loads, and I'm going to enjoy it, just as I do with each and every day off be it scheduled or not. Even if I was stuck out on the road I'd make the absolute best of it (those that know me well understand that one!). The way I look at it is simple; if I'm not at home I'm going to make $$$ somehow, someway. This is where I find Superior to be everything I expected concerning pay and quality home time when I came here. If I'm not getting paid I can guarantee you I'll be home with my family. 'Nuff said! Superior Carriers (January 1, 2009 to January 25, 2009) Gross Pay: $4,776.64 Hub miles: 9,543 (Avg.: .50/mile) Days Working: 18 (72%) Days Off: 7 (28%) Trust me, that time off number will steadily climb up throughout the course of the year! :lol2:

Hello all,
New to this board but have been reading this thread and another on another board and rob hooked me up here. Thanks rob. Ky 24 first sparked my interest in this company at the other board and rob kept it burning. since reading this board i am very very interested in coming onboard and have made a few calls and have nothing but nice things to say about the people I have talked to. My biggie at the moment and just from a time standpoint is I have to get my Haz-Mat back. I had it up till i renewed my D.L. the last time and droped t because i didnt need it and didnt wanna pay the bg check if I wasnt going to use it. Thought i had some other issues about not having the 6 month recent otr as stated on website but have learned thru my calls im good there. Was told if I get hired my term would be out of Atlanta. Also let me say I talked to Carry to. Since i didnt have my haz-mat i thought that would be the way to go and must be, because all the trucks are full and TM told me he didnt see anyone leaving. That was probably the most refreashing heart break i have had in trucking. Sad i didnt get the job but great to see the drivers are all very happy. Nice guy to talk to there. So I am off to DL office today to start the Haz-Mat process. I knew i should of kept it.lol Oh well thanks for all the great info and thank you Rob for the heads up on this board and the other info you gave me. Sorry for making this so long, but if you ever get to meet me you will see i like to beat my gums and chatter, Later all Im out. Last edited by Hicksie; 02-03-2009 at 03:03 PM.

Year-by-year results...
2006 (starting July 31st) Gross: $22,734.80 Miles: 41,126 Avg.: .552/mile Days Working: 117 (75%) Days Off: 40 (25%) 2007 Gross: $50,949.75 Miles: 95,667 Avg.: .532/mile Days Working: 246 (67%) Days Off: 119 (33%) 2008 Gross Pay: $55,687.16 Hub Miles: 113,514 Avg.: .490/mile Days Working: 218 (60%) Days Off: 148 (40%) 2009 (up to Jan. 29th) Gross Pay: $4,776.64 Hub miles: 9,543 Avg.: .50/mile Days Working: 18 (72%) Days Off: 7 (28%) *Sorry, unable to locate my actual hub miles for 2006 and 2007. Hicksie... I went through the same thing with letting the HAZMAT go and having to add it back on. Mine only took a whopping four weeks from the initial trip to the D/L Office til getting my new license. Mind you that was in Florida and back in 2006. If you were told you'd be running out of Atlanta (Morrow) you'll be working for Ken and Leslie I believe, and sure BGH will confirm this or any changes there. Also, unless you were told otherwise, I'm not sure you can drive for Carry running out of Atlanta, as I have a friend who lives there and was told exactly that; either get his HAZMAT back and drive for Superior or not at all. However, stranger things have happened!

Thanks all for info on Atl.
Let me clear myself up a little on Carry. I dont live in Atlanta im 150 miles north in WNC a small town on state line. I talked to Carry in Decatur Al. they manage the Spartanburg SC. term also. What he told me is with where I live that would be where I would go. They have 3 trucks there. Just lost an account due to economy and 1 driver is sitting alot and they are trying to get him back up and going because they are more dedicated accounts there. Thus the 3 trucks handled them. And he went on to add the frieght there was slow and his drivers were happy and didnt expect to see them leave any time soon. Which to me says alot about a company. You guys have gave so much great info. Thank you all. As for me, I go to get finger printed today if the roads and the place i gotta go are open. Snowed here a little and this place freeks out when they see white. Gotta drive over to asheville about 70 miles to get the finger printing done. Once that is done and get my ok back to DL office to get the endorsment and my license. Which is ok because I have to renew them in April anyway. Just gonna take me a little time to get all my ducks in a row but I really wanna work with you guys and I'm working hard to do it.

Hang in there good things come to those who wait. Just get your stuff in order (hazmat) and all will be good in the end.

Ponce...
It may just be a job, but IMHO it's a job that I personally enjoy doing and am proud to say I do. Compared to all of the other companies I've driven for over the years, what Superior offers beats them all hands-down, even if you combined the best of what they offered. None of them offer the combination of home time and income like we do, especially considering my situation. On the flip side... No, it's not perfect here and no company ever will be, but for my family and I it's the best thing going. I'm simply curious though, if you say driving here at Superior is nothing to get excited over then what prompted you to return other than the reasons you listed above, and where did you go and do after you left us before? Having never been in the Service, I must have missed some of the humor ya'll were sharing. Anyway's, my head at the time was "this guy hasn't pulled a single load and he's going off like he just one the lottery." Next month after running I78 into Jersey with 45,000 he may think this is the worse decision I ever made!! Anyways, welcome aboard to KY24/Jelly. Didn't mean to rain on any parades, or tinkle on a fire hydrant. |
